WIVES; FOOTBALLERS BIGGEST HURDLE IN GHANA
“We marry footballers
because of love not money”. That was what could be deduced from her
interview. Lawrencia Thompson, ex-wife of
retired Ghana winger Emmanuel Duah, rubbished suggestions that ladies get
married to footballers because of their money and not true love. But is that really
the case?
The history of
footballers and their principal headache of stirring divorce in the face after few
years or possibly months of tying the nut with a supposed life partner is not a
new thing. If damaging your image in a scandal is considered big, wait till you
face the complexity of coming up against divorce as a public figure. Not only
will you have to deal with image damage, but also facing the prospect of losing
a fortune.
Footballers are
not the only ones who have to sweat through this. Movie stars, politicians,
Musicians, presenters and other sports men just to mention a few suffer the
same fate. A lay person will ask the simple but very complex question, why?
Does it mean that you can’t find a trust worthy partner around as a star? Do
prospective partners harbor ulterior motives before getting into relationships
with stars? These are all questions which will keep on lingering as far as brains
cannot be opened. But at least there are so many evidences that prove that
partners are in for the “cash” and prestige, and not necessarily love.
Pick up a phone
and call former Black stars captain and defender John Mensah if you can. Ask
him to give you a break down of why you should not as a star, gamble when
selecting a life partner and he’ll give you a thousand. John Pantsil, Odartey
Lamptey, Ishmael Addo all in one way or the other have their faces buried in
this mess.
The so called
wives of these football stars give similar reasons for their decisions but you
might get to realize it’s not entirely the case.
According to the Daily Guide news
paper, reports on the case of John Mensah suggested that it was Henrietta (his
wife) who filed the divorce petition with an excuse that John had become an irresponsible father who was refusing
to cater for the needs of his children. In the same report Henrietta also accused John
of infidelity in the divorce petition.

Therefore court orders demanded
that John Mensah sells his plush Trassaco valley estate and some other
properties just to compensate his wife according to Ghanasoccernet.com.
In another report from
peacefmonline.com, Richlove (Paintsil’s wife) was
seeking divorce after accusing the former Fulham player of infidelity and neglecting his responsibility with
regard to the family’s upkeep, a similar claim as John Mensah’s case.
In a similar event, a report on
Ghanasoccernet.com indicated that Ghana player Arthur Moses has reportedly been
ordered to sell off four of his houses to compensate his former wife.
Whiles Nii Ordartey Lamptey seemingly
faced problems of infidelity from his wife after discovering that their
supposed children are not his.
Need I say more? It’s very evident
here that, women are giving our Ghanaian footballers some hell to smell. And
even though it’s quite difficult to know the mindset behind every woman’s involvement
with a football star, a toddler will even tell you that a rich man has more
friends than a poor man.
